LHE First Grade Fun

Week Two!

What a great first week! We had a nice time getting to know each other, and learning more about what is in store for us in 1st grade. We are looking forward to learning and growing together, and know this is going to be an exciting year! The very first Friday Folder came home on Friday in your child's binder. Take a minute and go over the contents with your child.Your child will be bringing home their planner every night, inside will be any correspondence from the classroom or office. Please look through this with your child and then return it to school.  Please sign or initial their planner each night so that we know you have seen it. If you are having trouble purchasing one please let us know. Also, feel free to write any notes with questions or concerns you may have in the planner and have your child bring it to our attention first thing in the morning.

Sept. 12 – 16:    We are excited to get started, we will continue to learn routines and expectations as well as begin to focus on reading goals for your child. The children will also continue counting on and back.

A large goal of first grade is developing great reading skills. . The foundations of reading are often set in kindergarten, when students learn the letters, sounds, and some begin reading. First grade is the year to become true readers of both fiction and nonfiction texts.

Students will be learning to read independently every day. They are also counting by 10's, 5's and 2's.

What you can do to support:   The best way to support your children in language arts and content areas is to show your excitement for learning.

We know this is going to be a great year together.
