I wanted to share what hard-working, focused students we have here at Prune Hill.
The past two days I have had 5th graders, 2nd graders and 1st graders coming in during their 8:30-9:00 recess doing class work in the lab; 1st graders & 3rd graders utilizing the “open” lab time on Friday mornings (9-11) to work on research and class work, and 4th graders being SO polite when asking for help looking for research materials in the library.
It is always a pleasure to be able to interact and assist the students in their projects and studies and watch their continued growth and knowledge of technology as the school year progresses.
Just a reminder; parents are always welcome in the computer lab with their student during the 8:30-9:00 recess. Just be sure to sign in at the front desk first! Drop in sometime and let your child show you the sites they can navigate to. Did you know the sites they use here at school are available on our school site for home access? If you have any questions please feel free to stop by and ask. Thanks for sharing your children with us!
Parents, ask your kindergarten, first and second graders about the Penguin Password cards available in computer lab. In an effort to help the younger students become comfortable with logging in on their own, I’ve provided individual, laminated “password” cards. They are available on the front counter for those who need a visual when logging in. I’ve noticed as the year progresses, the children get more confident and eventually don’t need the extra help to log in. My hope is that each student gains confidence to not only log in and out on their own, but also learn to navigate to different programs.
Did you know that the computer lab is open Monday, Tuesday, Thursday & Friday mornings before school from 8:30-9:00? This is a warm, dry place for students to use. They can have extra time for classwork and also have access to sites they use during their class. Some programs include: Accelerated Reader, Dance Mat Typing and Cool Math 4 Kids. Computer passes are given out by the Safety Patrol on a first come/first serve basis. However, anyone working on school work gets priority seating.
