Just a reminder that tomorrow you will be taking your first MSP test for 7th grade; it will be one of two writing tests (expository and persuasive). It is an exhausting morning for you, so getting a good night’s sleep is important. The test will begin first thing in the morning and you will have all day if you need it to finish. When you are done, you will be going to your regular classes, except for flex, for a shortened period of time.
Please ensure you have the following items for tomorrow morning:
- pencils #2 – no mechanical ones (3 of them)
- Mini pencil sharper
- Healthy snack (without crinkly wrappers preferably)

Research the Plastic Bag issue on both sides, using a pro/con t-chart.
- Read the ”Ban Plastic Bags?” article in Scholastic Jr. Collect data.
- Read the various arguments on both sides of this issue and collect data at: http://www.debate.org/opinions/should-plastic-bags-be-banned-from-grocery-stores
- Choose a partner, and pick a side of the issue. Prepare a one-minute speech to persuade another member of the class to vote pro/con on banning bags in stores in the US. Use the following guidelines to prepare your speech:
- Clearly describe what the issue is, and your position on it
-a thesis(which includes the issue, your position on it, and 3 reasons)
- Cover each of the 3 reasons with details. Use the elaboration techniques of description, stats and facts, and quote.
- a conclusion with restatement of 3 points, and a satisfying closing sentence that is a call to action for the audience.
