Dear 5th Grade Student,
Welcome to our fifth grade team and an exciting year at Lacamas Elementary! I am very pleased to have you in my class this year. Fifth grade is an exciting year full of fun learning opportunities.
I am very anxious to meet you and learn more about you and your family. I’d like to tell you a little bit about myself. I’ve lived in Camas for 21 years, and this is my sixteenth year teaching in the Camas School District. I grew up in Spokane, but prior to my move to Camas I lived in Eastern Oregon for 7 years where I taught 4th-8th grade in a small rural community, then 6 years in Vancouver teaching 4th-6th grade. I am married and have three children. My husband, Kelly, teaches technology at Camas High School. My oldest daughter, Jessica (26) currently lives in Beaverton, OR. We are looking forward to her upcoming wedding in October. Lindsay (24) also lives and works in Beaverton, and my son, Taylor, is a freshman at WSU where he will be playing baseball for the Cougars. I have 1 dog, Jeter. My favorite thing to do is to spend time with my family. I have had a wonderful summer doing just that, and am anxious to tell you all about it. We will be writing/discussing our summer vacations the first week of school, as well as doing fun activities to get to know each other. You’ll be pleasantly surprised to find you have a lot in common with your fellow classmates and teacher.
In fifth grade you will have an opportunity to experience a lot of new things. You will explore some exciting new curriculums like Landforms, Models and Design, Growth and Development, Food & Nutrition, Explorers, 13 Colonies, the American Revolution, Algebra, Fractions, Geometry and Decimals just to name a few. You will have an opportunity to possibly be a member of safety patrol.
Here are a few suggestions of how you can begin to prepare yourself for the beginning of school.
1). Start going to bed earlier, getting lots of sleep.
2). Read, read, read!
3). Practice your math facts(+, -, x, ÷).
School officially begins September 7, 2010, at 9:05 sharp. We’re going to have a fun year of learning and growing together. With a positive “I CAN” attitude, you can accomplish anything.
*Please check our Lacamas 5th grade supply list on our district web site at camas.wednet.edu
*Looking forward to seeing you at the Back to School BBQ on September 2, 4 -6 pm.
Welcome to team 302,
Mrs. Lois Williams
