“We read to know we're not alone.”
― William Nicholson, Shadowland

It's a good thing I'm a librarian, otherwise spending $119 at the bookstore as I did yesterday would be outrageous. I went the shop to buy another copy of John Green's latest book, Turtles All the Way Down, because there were signed copies and a goody bag, and I left with four other books including a 30th Anniversary edition of Gary Paulsen's Hatchet. We read to see ourselves and our friends. We read to escape and set our imagination free. If you wander over to the Reading tab and find Shelf Awareness, you'll see that this year I am writing about and promoting a book every week. I want you to be Shelf Aware of the amazing books available in the school library.

I never have a difficult time falling into a book. Not everyone feels that way. Reading is a skill and the only way to get better at anything that requires skill is to practice. Set some time aside for you and the teenager in your life and read. Fall into some books and reading time together.
