8th Daily Work/Classroom Assignments

Daily Work/Classroom Assignments are 40% of your grade in Technology.  Daily work and assignments will consist of projects in Microsoft Word, Web Design via PowerPoint, Windows MovieMaker and MacroMedia Flash.  Lessons are designed so students complete their work in class. Students who are unable to keep up due to misbehavior will be required to make up the work on their own.

 (1)   W O R D 

Identify and utilize basic functions in the Home tab and the Page Layout tab of Word

Complete a thank you letter using the "HTWATY" format including correct spacing, date, salutation,
            closing and signature block.

       Complete a multi-paragraph block format business letter including correct spacing and all elements of letter
         in the correct order.

Once open, click on the Office Button and click Save As.  
          b.  Save to the correct folder in your class folder on Student Sharing.

Demonstrate knowledge of PowerPoint basics:
          add new slide, delete slide, change background color of slide and text box, change border color, size and style
          of text box; insert picture, frame picture with border, delete text box, modify font size, style and color.  

     ♦  Demonstrate knowledge of the Rules of Avoiding Death by PowerPoint by
          (a) written quizzes
          (b) applying knowledge in the PowerPoint program

   The ADBWBvPPT rules are:

         1.  Use spell check
         2.  Keep fonts simple
         3.  Avoid excessive bullet points
         4.  Keep facts clear and short/Use only the right amount of words* 
         5.  Use appropriate number of pages for your topic
         6.  Use good color scheme/Avoid neon and bright color schemes to ensure no loss of bladder control
         7.  AVOID pointless motion – Animation should enhance not deter attention
         8.  When using graphs – keep it simple and clear

      ♦  Demonstrate knowledge of the C.R.A.P. Design Principles by 
            (a) written quizzes
            (b) creating mock webpage via PowerPoint including internal and external hyperlinks
            (c) effectively
applying C.R.A.P principles   
     ►  Contrast – if two elements are different, then make then DIFFERENT.  Think of this as the opposite of blending. 
                         Example: the background and font color are distincntly different.
     ►  Repetition – elements between and among slides repeat.  Think of this as consistency. 
                         Example: the font color on each slide is the same style and color.
     ►  Alignment – the intentional placement of text and graphics.  Think of this as associations.  
Example: if three bullet points are under one heading, those three bullet points are all lined up the 
                         same way (such as left aligned).
     ►  Proximity – the nearness of elements.  Think of this as busy vs. blah and positive vs. negative space.  
                         Example: If the elements are crammed together, it is too busy and it lacks negative space.  
                          If the slide has too much negative space, it lacks appeal, therefore detracting from the presentation.
                          Our eyes and brain need negative space in order to know where to focus (the positive space), 
                          but too much negative space puts us to sleep!

Demonstrate knowledge of MovieMaker basics such as real estate, importing pictures, creating video effects,
           transtions, titles/credits, modifying length of clips and effects, splitting clips, audio/music overlay, modifying
           audio levels (from video vs. audio clip), switch between timeline and storyboard, drag and drop assests from
           collection to storyboard/timeline.  Sucessfully save movie file and project.
